Countdown to Finals Weekend: Yorkshire's Best Take Centre Stage
Summer is building to its biggest weekend on the Bowls Yorkshire competitions calendar. On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July, the finals of our county competition will be played at King George V Bowling Club, Guisborough to decide who becomes Yorkshire County Champion in their event, and who earns the right to represent the county at the Bowls England National Finals in Leamington. It's the culmination of a season of qualifying rounds, tense semi-finals, and no small amount


Men's 2 Bowl Singles Quarter and Semi Finals
The Men's 2 Bowl Singles Quarter and Semi Finals were completed at York Railway this evening, with some closely contested matches throughout. Following four competitive quarter finals, Jack Bird (Nafferton) booked his place in the final with a victory over Ray Murphy (Springhead Park) in the first semi final. In the second semi final, Marcus Mosley (Middlesbrough) held off the challenge of Mike Bruce (York Railway) to secure the other place in the final.


Alwyn Baron
Alwyn was a stalwart of Yorkshire County. He was introduced to the sport of Bowls in 1972 by a friend and joined Nafferton Bowling Club. It soon became apparent that he had an aptitude and passion for the game. He remained at Nafferton until joining Driffield Recreation in 2006. In 1978 Alwyn played his first County game for the C team, some six years later he received his County badge. Alwyn went on to progress through the ranks to the A team where he skipped for many year


Mixed Triples Qualifier at Northallerton
A terrific day of bowling at Northallerton today as the second qualifying event in our brand-new Yorkshire Mixed Triples competition took place. There was drama throughout the knockout stages, with both semi-finals going to an extra end before a high-quality final rounded off an excellent day's play. Over 55 Fours
Another great evening of bowling to watch earlier this month when the semi finalists of the Over 55 Fours took place at Dunnington. One semi final match had two Bishop Monkton teams playing each other and the other was South Cave v Thirsk. Congratulations to the South Cave of Maria Whittle, Jayne Stride, Jane Duguid and Eva Dayes and the Bishop Monkton team of Angie Archbold, Carol Pawson, Pauline Beecroft, and Sue Armstrong who won through to Finals Day. Men’s County Triples Quarter Finals
Fantastic to be back at Kirkbymoorside again for our Triples QF. Two superb comebacks and one extra end game produced our 4 semi finalists: Mark Walton (Nafferton), Mick Mooney (Smiths Dock), Andy Boatwright (Selby) and Malcolm Richardson (Kirkbymoorside). Ladies Pairs Semi Finals
Another night of excellent bowling was enjoyed when the ladies pairs semi-finals took place at Dunnington. Congratulations to Sandie Plant and Judy Abel from Shipton who beat Alison Dalby and Lynne Tattersall of York RB&SC and to Judith Smith and Gayle Hartley from Thirsk who beat Anna Zetterstrom and Shirley Cruickshank of Hutton Rudby. Both winning teams are Leamington bound. Thanks to David Dearlove for umpiring and Dunnington for hosting the event.


Over 65 Pairs North Qualifier
A very good days bowling at Redcar Borough Park saw the Over 65 Pairs North Qualifier take place. Excellent hospitality shown by our generous hosts as always and the green bowled very well. In the end we have 4 qualifiers for the County Quarter Finals next Tuesday at Thirsk; M Hartley (Thirsk), J Coleman (Northallerton), S Davison (Northallerton) and J Barrett (Mulgrave).


Swinton and Northallerton book their places to Leamington
We enjoyed a superb evening of bowls at Dunnington for the Fours semi-finals, culminating in a spectacular finish as the sun went down. Swinton secured their place in the final with a victory over Thirsk, while Northallerton booked the second spot after an absolute thriller against Bishop Monkton. A Fantastic Day of Bowls: Ladies 4-Wood Singles
A fantastic turnout of 31 talented players took to the green at West Bank Park for the ladies 4-Wood Singles competition. The competition was fierce but friendly, and after some incredible displays of skill, we have officially played down to our final eight. Well done to: Sue Entwistle, Melanie Wilkes, Caroline Longden, Vanessa Jameson, Sue Allen, Cressida Fordy, Sally Scott and Mary Kenworthy. Huge congratulations are in order for the Angels of the North (our combined Cumbria, Northumberland, and Yorkshire U25 squad), who have officially secured their place at the Bowls England National Finals! Eight-Year-Old Lillie Makes Impressive Debut at Thornton Le Dale Triples
Well done to Lillie who made her bowls debut in the Thornton Le Dale Triples at the weekend. Proud mum shared the news afterwards, saying: "Our 8-year-old daughter Lillie making her debut at the Thornton Le Dale triples today! Super proud of her!" And it's easy to see why. Over 65 Fours Northern Qualifiers
A great day's bowling at Guisborough Priory saw 4 teams go through to the Quarter Final stage at Thirsk. The weather forecast was poor but somehow we largely stayed dry throughout. In a tense finale, the second place in both groups came down to the last bowl! Qualifiers are: Paul Sykes (Mulgrave) Steve Davison (Northallerton) Graham Bond (Hutton Rudby) 2024 winner Sam Oliver (Skelton). Support Yorkshire's Young Stars in the White Rose Trophy at Redcar
Yorkshire will be in action on Sunday 21 June as the county competes in the prestigious White Rose Trophy at Redcar Borough Park. Redcar played host to the Zone 1 Two Bowl Singles qualifiers on Sunday afternoon. Alsop Cup Returns to Yorkshire as 2025 Winners Receive Trophy

I am pleased to announce that finally Bowls England have released the figure showing the number of qualifiers each county gets at Leamington this year. Here is our summary: Men's Four Bowl Singles - Yorkshire get two qualifiers as we ranked 21st with the top 27 getting two qualifiers. Our 95 entries were well above the 71 which was 28th. Excellent Day for Yorkshire Ladies at Northern Counties Finals
Yesterday, Sunday 10th May, Yorkshire Ladies enjoyed an excellent day at the Northern Counties Finals held at Consett Bowls Club, Durham, competing in all four disciplines. In the Singles semi-final, Cressida Fordy was narrowly defeated by the eventual winner from Cumbria. The Bowls Yorkshire Ladies had a lovely sunny afternoon's bowling, followed by a cream tea, at York Railway B&SC to get the new season underway.

We were blessed with a beautiful hot and sunny day, perfect for getting out on the green. The session kicked off with a warm-up, followed by a fun and engaging target mat activity to get everyone into the swing of things. Janet Farnsworth wins Bowls England Certificate of Merit
Long-serving Driffield Rec Bowls Club member Janet Farnsworth has been awarded the prestigious Bowls England Certificate of Merit in recognition of her outstanding dedication and lifelong contribution to the sport. Janet, who has played for Driffield since 1980, received the national honour at the Bowls England annual awards. She has been a tireless supporter of the club through many changes and challenges, and in 2011 became the first Lady President of the Yorkshire Bowling
