Swinton and Northallerton book their places to Leamington

We enjoyed a superb evening of bowls at Dunnington for the Fours semi-finals, culminating in a spectacular finish as the sun went down.

Swinton secured their place in the final with a victory over Thirsk, while Northallerton booked the second spot after an absolute thriller against Bishop Monkton.

The match between Northallerton and Bishop Monkton went right down to the wire. Shot for shot was exchanged with almost every wood delivered, and it was a tremendous shame that either side had to lose. In the end, the match couldn't be settled in standard ends, with Northallerton finally clinching the win on an extra end just as the daylight rapidly faded. Had it gone on any longer, they would have struggled to see the jacks!

The excellent news for both Swinton and Northallerton is that their tournament journey continues on a bigger stage. Because this competition carries two qualification places, both teams have earned their spot at the National Finals in Leamington. They will also play against each other to contest our own County Final later this season.

Our thanks go to umpire David Dearlove for his excellent officiating, and to Dunnington for hosting the semi-finals and looking after everyone so well.

Congratulations to both finalists, and the very best of luck to both teams as they represent the county at the National Finals.
