Summer is building to its biggest weekend on the Bowls Yorkshire competitions calendar. The Men's 2 Bowl Singles Quarter and Semi Finals were completed at York Railway this evening, with some closely contested matches throughout. Following four competitive quarter finals, Jack Bird (Nafferton) booked his place in the final with a victory over Ray Murphy (Springhead Park) in the first semi final. In the second semi final, Marcus Mosley (Middlesbrough) held off the challenge of Mike Bruce (York Railway) to secure the other place in the final.

Alwyn was a stalwart of Yorkshire County. He was introduced to the sport of Bowls in 1972 by a friend and joined Nafferton Bowling Club. It soon became apparent that he had an aptitude and passion for the game. He remained at Nafferton until joining Driffield Recreation in 2006. In 1978 Alwyn played his first County game for the C team, some six years later he received his County badge.
