Janet Farnsworth wins Bowls England Certificate of Merit

Updated: Mar 26

Long-serving Driffield Rec Bowls Club member Janet Farnsworth has been awarded the prestigious Bowls England Certificate of Merit in recognition of her outstanding dedication and lifelong contribution to the sport.

Janet, who has played for Driffield since 1980, received the national honour at the Bowls England annual awards. She has been a tireless supporter of the club through many changes and challenges, and in 2011 became the first Lady President of the Yorkshire Bowling Association following the unification of men’s and women’s sections.

A former Yorkshire Development Officer, Janet has represented Yorkshire in prestigious competitions including the Walker Cup and Johns Trophy, and has enjoyed success at county and national level, notably winning the Amy Rose Trophy in 2009.

Beyond playing, Janet has given countless hours to the club and county through fundraising, organising events, touring teams, and supporting players of all ages. Described by Bowls England as “an absolute ambassador for the sport of bowls,” she is known for her positive attitude, encouragement, and unwavering commitment both on and off the green.

Speaking after receiving her award, Janet said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured… I have been lucky to travel the world playing bowls and have loved every minute from the first day I went on the green with Driffield ladies, making lots of lifelong friends along the way.”

Congratulations, Janet – a very well-deserved honour after 45 years of outstanding service to bowls!
